| The Barlow
Tool & Machine Company was established in 1932 by
William Barlow Sr. with the purpose of providing machining
services to the Industrial Community of Hamilton and surrounding
area. As this was during the early years of the "great
depression", the Company focused on accepting the challenge
of any type of job. Adopting this philosophy meant that a
great deal of ingenuity and improvisation had to be used,
resulting in a wealth of manufacturing experience and expertise. |

As
we entered the Second World War, various equipment and replacement
parts became difficult to obtain and had to be manufactured locally.
This was particularly true of the Glass Container Industry given
the high wear factor on the replaceable components of the glass
forming machinery. Barlow was recruited to repair or replace a great
many of these parts. Barlow became the major supplier of this type
of equipment in Canada, eventually leading to greater involvement
in every aspect of Glass Plant Machinery, including the finished
product-conveyor systems.

At the same
time as our involvement with the glass industry, we maintained
and strengthened our relationship with all of our North American
customers. In 1957 it became necessary to move to larger facilities
closer to the main Canadian and U.S. highway systems in proximity
with the Canadian/U.S. border. We continued to grow and provide
an ever-increasing range of services, which again, led to the
need for larger premises. We relocated to our present facility
in 1975 and shortly thereafter established the Barlow Packaging
Plus Division solely for the manufacture of conveyors and conveying
equipment.
Today, Barlow still manufactures a number of specialty items such
as our glass colorant
stirrer, which is currently being used in glass plants worldwide.
